National Taipei Nursing College (1981 to 1994)

In July 1981, the College was restructured as the National Taipei College of Nursing and hired Ms. Shen Jung as the College President.

After President Shen took office, she actively reformed the curriculum design and added internship venues, and signed work-study program contracts with more than ten hospitals including the Taipei Veterans General Hospital and National Taiwan University Hospital. In 1981 and 1983, the College became sister schools with American and Korean colleges and specialized universities. Since 1986, the College planned to select a number of nursing teachers to study at various domestic and international universities, and use the relatively abundant financial resources after the restructure to redo the plans for the new Shipai school building.

  1. 3-year Nursing Program (began recruiting male students in 1985), a total of 2,720 graduates

The Program was established in the 1953 and started recruiting male students in 1985. By July 1991, there were 2,720 graduates, including 2,558 female graduates and 162 male graduates.

  1. 5-year Nursing and Midwifery Program a total of 1,532 graduates

The Program was established in 1963 and was ordered to stop recruiting students in 1982. By 1986, all 5-year nursing and midwifery students graduated from the College.

  1. 2-year Nursing Program, established in 1982, a total of 1,562 graduates

In 1982, the College was approved to add a 2-year nursing program and was further approved to recruit students for its 2-year in-service nursing program in August 1989. Since the students were all working as nurses, flexible classes were adopted to meet their work needs, and the  program was divided into two classes of morning classes and afternoon classes.

In February 1986, construction of the new Beitou school building overcame numerous difficulties and was finally completed. The entire College moved to the new site at No. 365, Mingde Road, Beitou District, and its serene 16 acre (7-jia) area was turned into the Main campus. The original campus at Neijiang Street was turned into the Downtown Campus, and the affiliated hospital of the College (the affiliated hospital was originally named as the Affiliated Women and Children Health Center, and was founded on May 4th, 1949. It was approved to be renamed as the Affiliated Medical and Health Center in October 1986 and in July 1989, it was approved to be changed to the Affiliated Hospital of the National Taipei College of Nursing).

In July 1990, President Shen stepped down after nine years in office according to the regulations for junior colleges, and Ms. Lin Shou-Hui took over as the College President.

Plans to restructure the College of Nursing

In order to comply with government education policies and meet the needs of society, former President Hsu devoted herself to the reform of the College during the early years of her tenure. With the efforts of former President Zhu and current President Shen since 1988, the gradual restructuring of the College of Nursing was submitted to the Ministry of Education for review. In August 1990, the College was instructed by the Ministry of Education to formally plan and restructure the College of Nursing. After President Lin took office, she actively made plans for the College’s various departments, designed curriculums, and enriched teachers; she also looked for ways to expand the campus to respond to the restructure and have the College established as soon as possible.
